Movie Monday: Watcher, The Watcher, The Watchers… What Watcher Was I Watching?

I watched a really great slow-burn suspenseful movie on Saturday night but I have the darndest time remembering what movie I watched because there are so many that have basically the same title (released around the same time).
The Watchers is a movie that stars Dakota Fanning and was released in 2024. I’m intrigued but that’s not the one I watched.
The Watchers is also a TV series that was released in 2022. That stars Kevin Porter and Ciera Foster. That’s not what I watched either.
Add to that list there is another The Watchers movie set to release in 2025 in the horror movie category. And a handful of others I found with the exact same name. None of those were what I watched.
So was it the The Watcher? Singular? Nope! That’s a series released in 2022 starring Naomi Watts. I actually do have this on my list to watch someday (because I like her in those kinds of roles), it just didn’t happen over the weekend.
What about The Watcher from 2000 with Keanu Reeves & Marisa Tomei? It wasn’t that movie either.
It was Watcher starring Maika Monroe from 2022. You might recognize her name but every time I’ve seen her in a movie, she’s like a chameleon and looks completely different! It Follows, Longlegs, and now … Watcher.
She’s becoming one of those actresses that if I know she’s in something, I figure I will probably enjoy it.
And boy was it worth the watch. I love a good psychological thriller and this fit the bill! I won’t give more away and spoil the movie for you but it checks both of my boxes for a good scary movie:
-Is it believable?
-Does it have an ending?
I don’t have to like the ending, there just needs to be some closure. There’s nothing worse than a movie that has you sucked in the entire time and then just leaves you hanging. I will instantly hate it. But you definitely get closure on this one.
I loved the characters- all believable. I loved the acting- all great. And I loved the plot- it had me questioning the entire time and then paid off with a great finish.
So give the Watcher a watch. I mean, Watcher. Give Watcher a watch. Because The Watcher, The Watchers, Watchers…. are something totally different!
Can Hollywood come to an unwritten agreement that they’ll stop using the same name for just about everything? That’d be great!

Movie Review: Roofman
I’m going to start out by saying that I love Channing Tatum, so I’m completely biased. COMPLETELY. That being said, aside from my admiration, he is a really good actor. And don’t scoff at that…. he is! He has range. He can ham it up in slapstick comedy movies like 21 Jump Street (2012), dance […]
