This Time It’s Painfully Different

If you have listened to my ramblings over the past couple of weeks regarding the kidney stone, you’re probably sick of hearing about it. But I can assure you not nearly as sick as I am of dealing with it! I had surgery on Tuesday morning to remove the stone. At least, that’s what I thought was happening. As it turns out, because of the size and location of the stone, direct removal of it was not possible. It was broken up with a laser and essentially turned into dust. I am now flushing out those particles, and dealing with some big time spasms in the kidney and ureter. Not a fun experience at all, and vastly different than my first kidney stone surgery in 2016. The urologist also placed a stent in the ureter, that starts in the kidney and runs down into the bladder. Since there’s (literally) no strings attached to the stent, there’s only one way to get it out. That’s right, another procedure called a cystoscopy. That happens next week.
Yay me.
Moral of the story: Drink plenty of water, every day. Don’t let yourself get dehydrated. I’m going to work on that. From now on, I’ll be the person walking around with an Owala bottle everywhere.

For most of us, the two weeks of the games are like a vacation. A break from the same-old routine, a break from our typical television viewing habits, and most […]
